This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to manage well servicing induction and orientation in Drilling.

1 Plan and prepare to manage well servicing induction and orientation

1.1 Source, interpret and apply compliance documentations and ensure the work activity is compliant

1.2 Confirm, maintain and apply induction and orientation procedures and instructions

1.3 Identify key personnel and roles required for delegation and support in performing induction and orientation and communicate requirements

1.4 Resolve coordination requirements with others at the site prior to commencing induction and orientation

2.6 Establish and maintain hazardous energy control and fire safety procedures and communicate requirements to others

2.7 Identify mechanical equipment and manual handling hazard control measures and establish and communicate procedures to avoid non-conformance

2.8 Verbally discuss rig working and living conditions including work rosters and camp rules to others

2.9 Maintains written records and reporting of risk to activity, personnel and con-conformance

3 Communicate first aid/emergency response arrangements

3.1 Identify first aid requirements and discuss with others

3.2 Identify and highlight dangers associated with the use of first aid applications

3.3 Identify blood borne pathogens and precautions to identify contamination and communicate to others

3.4 Identify different types of alarms, their uses and authorisations and communicate to others

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete management of well servicing induction and orientation that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements throughout work activities

demonstrates completion of managing well servicing induction and orientation that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

communicating policies and procedures with team members

establishing and maintaining policies and procedures for:

communication hierarchy

hazard identification

personal protective equipment

materials handling

communicate rig working and living conditions with team members

identify first aid requirements and communicate with team members

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of managing well servicing induction and orientation through:

accessing, interpreting and applying the organisation and site requirements and procedures

maintaining company and statutory safety guidelines, procedures and practices

establishing and maintaining safe operating procedures for operating equipment

maintaining all operational procedures (safe practice)

adhering to award entitlements (e.g. overtime)

implementing safe working practice

demonstrating human management skills

maintaining company reporting procedures

knowledge of general mechanical/electrical operating functions

identifying down-hole problems and determining solutions

knowledge of hazards associated with live wells and pressure

knowledge well condition and history including gas detector USF

performing drills (e.g. fire, BOP, gas detection)

An assessor of this unit must satisfy the requirements of the NVR/AQTF or their successors; and Industry regulations for certification and licensing; and,

this unit must be assessed in the context of this sector’s work environment; and,

this unit must be assessed in compliance with relevant legislation/regulation and using policies, procedures, processes and operational manuals directly related to the industry sector for which it is being assessed; and,

assessment may be conducted in conjunction with the assessment of other Units of Competency; and,

assessment must confirm consistent performance can be applied in a range of relevant workplace circumstances; and,

assessors must demonstrate the performance evidence, and knowledge evidence as outlined in this Unit of Competency, and through the minimum years of current* work experience specified below in an Industry sector relevant to the outcomes of the unit; or,

where the assessor does not meet experience requirements a co-assessment or partnership arrangement must exist between the qualified assessor and an Industry subject matter expert. The Industry subject matter expert should hold the unit being assessed (or an equivalent unit) and/or demonstrate equivalence of skills and knowledge at the unit level. An Industry technical expert must also demonstrate skills and knowledge from the minimum years of current work experience specified below in the Industry sector, including time spent in roles related to the unit being assessed; and,

assessor and Industry subject matter expert requirements differ depending on the Australian Qualifications Framework Level (AQF) of the qualification being assessed and/or Industry Sector as follows:

*Assessors can demonstrate current work experience through employment within Industry in a role relevant to the outcomes of the Unit; or, for external assessors this can be demonstrated through exposure to Industry by conducting frequent site assessments across various locations.
